Subwavelength light bending by metal slit structures.
We discuss how light can be efficiently bent by nanoscale-width slit waveguides in metals. The discussion is based on accurate numerical solutions of Maxwell's equations. Our results, using a realistic model for silver at optical wavelengths, show that good right-angle bending transmission can be achieved for wavelengths lambda> 600 nm. An approximate stop-band at lower wavelengths also occurs,...
متن کاملLight transmission through a subwavelength slit: waveguiding and optical vortices.
The anomalous (i.e., more than 100%) light transmission through a subwavelength slit in a thin metal plate is accompanied by a combination of waveguiding and phase singularities of the field of power flow near the slit. The crucial role of these phase singularities (such as optical vortices and saddle points) in exciting the waveguide modes is systematically studied. We predict transmission eff...
متن کاملModulated light transmission through a subwavelength slit at early stage.
We simulate the early dynamics of enhanced light transmission through a subwavelength metallic slit and find that the amplitude of the transmitted light can be modulated. To understand this novel phenomenon and underlying physics, we develop a new analytical model. The field of each light period is considered as an individual unit. Each field is partially transmitted through the slit as the fir...
متن کاملPhase-shift anomaly caused by subwavelength-scale metal slit or aperture diffraction.
Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy probes anomalous phase-shift caused by wave diffraction from a subwavelength-scale metal slit or aperture. Carrier frequency phase measurements in the far-field region reveals that nearly 30° phase advance is induced from a subwavelength slit diffraction and that 180° phase-advance from a subwavelength aperture. These results indicate that the conventional 90°...
متن کاملExtraordinary light transmission through opaque thin metal film with subwavelength holes blocked by metal disks.
We observed that when subwavelength-sized holes in an optically opaque metal film are completely covered by opaque metal disks larger than the holes, the light transmission through the holes is not reduced, but rather enhanced. Particularly we report (i) the observation of light transmission through the holes blocked by the metal disks up to 70% larger than the unblocked holes; (ii) the observa...
